Ruth Allen, age 72, of Dover, died Friday, December 16, 2011, at St. Vincent's Specialty Hospital in Little Rock. She was born February 9, 1939, at Broken Bow, Oklahoma to Fred and Hazel Bridges Westbrook. She was a member of Cedar Grove Assembly of God in Hector. And was the owner of the Sugar Shack on 4th Street for over 20 years and enjoyed the art of cake and candy decorating. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, David Allen. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Laudelle Allen of Dover; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Sherie Allen of Dover; two daughters and one son-in-law, SueAnn and Kevin Hopkins of Russellville and Jennifer King of Dover; one brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Pam Westbrook of Oklahoma; and a sister, Sue Moore of California; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral will be held at 2p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Broussard Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Bobby Judkins, under the direction of Broussard Funeral Home in Russellville. Active pallbearers will be Shane Hopkins, Kevin Hopkins Jr., Kevin Hopkins Sr., Danny Allen, Wendell Allen, and Kaleb Marquardson. Visitation will be 5 to 7p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 at the Funeral Home.
I don't have the words to say how much I miss you. Ruth has suffered tragedy and illness but always remained such a positive influence on everyone around her. Love and prayers for family thru this difficult time.
Ruth has baked our cakes for the last 12 years and I enjoyed visiting with her everytime I came in. She will truly be missed.
Im sorry for the Loss of Miss Allen. I didnt know her very long. Me and Ruthy wasnt married that long. But what time I did know her I did love her. She was a sweet lady. She did a great job on the wedding cake. She also done My grandma and grandpas 50th wedding annaversary cake. She done a wonderful job on it also. We will greatly miss her work she done on her cakes. I ENJOYED GOING TO CHURCH WITH SISTER RUTH AND REMEMBERED THE SMILES ON HER FACE WHEN WE CHATTED ABOUT JESUS. MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY.
I WILL MISS SISTER RUTH VERY MUCH. I REMEMBER THE TIMES WE SPENT AT CEDAR GROVE CHURCH. OFTEN SHE WOULD BAKE THE MOST WONDERFUL CAKES FOR OUR MEETINGS. SHE LOVED HER FAMILY DEARLY AND MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO HER FAMILY.
I spent a few very pleasant mornings in her shop, she was so kind. I will always remember her.
It\'s so hard to imagine the Sugar Shack without you, Ruth. Over the years you have always been there with helpful advice, neat ideas, and so much personality. You were a wonderful person and I\'m so grateful to have known you. I will think of you for the rest of my life as I decorate. <3
I am so sorry to hear of Ruth's demise. She was a wonderful Christian lady who loved God & her family. Praying for all the family as you walk through these difficult days.
